Jenny - RATING: 2.5/5
This movie is just a wanna-be E.T. with some many similarities... an addition to a human consumption item, destroying things to make other things, an injured or sick boy who needs to be healed by the alien. and a chase to get the alien back to it's family. It was not original at all and none of the characters were that likable.
Mac and Me (1988)
Bambi (1942)
Jenny - RATING: 3/5
I have not seen this movie since I was young and watching now I realized that truly there is no story to this movie, no plot, no real sense of story except that of the circle of life. I am glad that they made the characters true animals instead of having them more like people; it kept it real. We watched the commentaries with it, which always is fun with Disney because you learn so much of the creation of it as well as touching on other movies at the same time. The Blu-Ray on this is fabulous, the transfer is excellent. If you get a chance, listen to it with commentary.
Almost Famous (2000)
Jenny - RATING: 5/5
This is one of my top 10 favorite movies, probably my top 5. I have reviewed this movie before but again to say that it is probably the movie the hit most home with me as I was "William Miller" in the late 80's and early 90's with the latin american pop music scene. I wanted to be a music writer and I made friends with the artists like he did. It was a part of my life that I hold dear and can totally relate. It is fabulous movie that never gets old.
Monsters (2010)
Jenny - RATING: 2/5
Nothing impressed me or moved me in this movie and the whole kiss at the end seemed like they just need a forced closure for the film. It was long and drawn out for no true fear of these "monsters" and once in the US it almost seemed like the E.T.'s we not to be feared cos they didn't try to really hurt the two main characters. They never seemed to be in danger so I felt nothing for them.
Never Let Me Go (2010)
Jenny - RATING: 4/5
How would I feel if I knew my life could end at any moment? They could take away a vital organ and I would be done... That is what this movie did; it made me think about loving someone or something especially with a glimmer of hope that you could stop it, and living your short life like that. Every moment is precious even if you are born to donate. This was an all around good movie that evokes thoughts on your own life.
Network (1976) - AFI Top 100 #64
Jenny -RATING 4/5
Drama, humor and a bit of truth to it all, Network was an awesome two hours of entertainment about the world of television, reality tv and news. Faye Dunaway plays an awesomely strong woman in a man's world of television 70's. Acting was superb, story was great. I can see why this is one of the Top 100 AFI films. Excellent. I saw this when I was younger, way younger, but don't remember lots of it. Can appreciate it more now as an adult.
The Social Network (2010)
Jenny - RATING: 3/5
Hmmm... I am still trying to decide what I think of this movie. It wasn't all bad but to me it was not Best Picture worthy. Jesse Eisenberg did a good job as a asshole but for some reason I think that it might not been much of a stretch but who knows... it seems to come easy for him. I think Brenda Song did a better job at being a pyscho girlfriend... YAAY BRENDA! The movie lacked something but I don't exactly know what; just felt unmoved by it all.
Eastern Promises (2007)
Jenny - RATING: 3/5
As much as I wanted to like this movie all the way through, I was seriously disappointed on how they ended this movie. I feel left with no closure what so ever. Too many questions are unanswered and I really wanted to see a big show down at the end. Story was excellent but just failed at the end... Almost a 4 star for me...
Bonnie and Clyde (1967) #42 of AFI Top 100
I agree with Elisabeth on this one, the acting was spot on. There was humor, drama, and history in this movie and these two actors really brought it to life. I do have to say Estelle Parsons still annoyed me outside of Roseanne (TV Show). I don't have anything bad to say about it except for Ms. Parsons. :p
Friday the 13th: Part 6: Jason Lives (1986)
RATING: 3/5
This movie was far more entertaining than the first five. With a big budget, a believable story, and better acting, Jason 6 was quite enjoyable. I was glad that the nudity and sex scenes were cut way down because I don't think you really need it anymore. Yeah, the 70's and early 80's were a little bit more free on that and made Friday The 13th what it was, but the series grew and I think it was wise to stay semi-free of that. Jason seemed almost zombie like in this chapter and it came full circle with him trapped underwater at Camp Crystal Lake again. Much better...
Friday the 13th: A New Beginning (1985)
RATING: 2.5/5
My most recent worktime movie was part 5 in the series of Friday The 13th's. Slowy I am finishing them up since I had only seen 1 and 4 previously. This time, Tommy (Corey Feldman from chapter 4) is all grown up and is sent to a half-way house in the woods where you can have knives and sex with the co-eds... wow, all the things Jason hates. One by one, Jason, or so they say the sheriff who is avenging his sons death, picks off each and everyone in the woods until the final showdown where Tommy faces Jason to the death so to speak... And since we all know there is a 6th... Tommy becomes Jason. Bad acting all over the place... I wish that this series would actually have a plot more than just new location, new kids, let's kill them.
Santa sangre (1989)
Jenny - RATING: 3/5
I don't know how to feel about this movie. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love; more like I was confused mostly until the end when it all seemed to come into light. I laughed, I cringed and I said "Huh?" a lot. I was really hoping to like it a lot based on the twitter recommendations, but it really didn't happen for me.
AFI Top 100 #92 - Goodfellas (1990)
Jenny - RATING: 3/5
While this movie was good, it wasn't my favorite mob movie. Thinking about Pesci and DeNiro, I felt Casino was a lot more enjoyable. My thoughts on this movie are very minimal, its wasn't that good or that bad... and again, like all movies with Joe Pesci, he annoys the hell out of me.
Suspiria (1977)
The Heavenly Kid (1985)
RATING: 3/5
Not bad of a movie... Kid from the 60's dies in a drag race and before he can go to heaven, he has to prove him self capable of loving someone other than himself. A standard story that has been done over and over but was decent characters and my love for the 80's made this movie fairly decent but doesn't win my heart as there was lack of feeling when he gets to go to heaven. Come on, all 80's movies end happily ever after 99% of the time. And the lead character (dead angel) reminds me sooooo much of James Franco.
Crawlspace (1986)
RATING: 2/5
This movie lacked intensity or anything interesting... It gives you a child of the Hitler generation who grew up to be a wacko who likes to spy on young girls in the air ducks of his apartment complex and killed anyone who was having sex with HIS girls and when one girl is on to him and learned too much, he goes postal and kills everyone in his complex. It wasn't gory or anything like a slasher film cos you don't even really see the kills.
Red Sonja (1985)
Friday the 13th Part III (1982)
RATING: 3/5
On the third installment of the Friday The 13th series, Jason was a lot my visible then I remember him being first two. In the non-3D version, you can definitely tell where 3D was supposed to be, but it was barely relevant, but isn't all 3D that way. Of course there is no real plot to the Jason series, but we get to see where Jason gets his mask. It wasn't boring, but it wasn't excellent either.
Thrashin' (1986)
AFI Top 100 #34 - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)
For our first AFI Top 100, we watched Snow White, which might have been brilliant in its time but really its not Disney's best. There was a lot of movie that was a break through in animated film making and watching the blu-ray with Walt's commentary makes you realize how much truly went into making this film. For me, I thought the movie itself was very slow moving doesn't hold me or capture me but does have an awesome villain.
Jerry Maguire (1996)
Jenny - RATING: 3/5
Not that I would want to watch this again, but it wasn't all hideous. I definitely do no think Cuba Gooding Jr. should have won the best supporting actor award for this because I didn't see this as that much of a stretch for him as an actor. Tom Cruise still lacked personality, but the story was pretty good which is why it gets bumped to 3 stars... But I probably could have waited another 10 years to see this movie and not have felt like I was missing anything. It's a very over-rated movie.
