AFI Top 100 #92 - Goodfellas (1990)

Jenny - RATING: 3/5
While this movie was good, it wasn't my favorite mob movie. Thinking about Pesci and DeNiro, I felt Casino was a lot more enjoyable. My thoughts on this movie are very minimal, its wasn't that good or that bad... and again, like all movies with Joe Pesci, he annoys the hell out of me.

Elisabeth - RATING 3/5
This was a decent movie. Not my favorite Scorsese movie, but good. I am just not a fan of mob movies. I can see why a lot of people love this movie. I personally know 3 people who consider this movie to be one of their favorite movies of all time. Not me...but that doesn't mean it was bad. Just not my thing.

The Dead Girl (2006)

Jenny - RATING: 2/5
This really has no purpose in being a movie... there was no point to this movie what so ever. Honestly it never really even connected and you never felt anything for anyone, no purpose, no closure... I love Brittany, but come on... this could have been way better.

Elisabeth RATING 3.5/5
I liked the movie. The little vignettes didn't make any sense as a whole, but they told the story. It would have been better if they snipped back and forth and in between all of them at once instead. The Brittany Murphy section was by far the best and unfortunately, it was the beginning of the end for her...but damn she was good.

Solstice (2007)

RATING: 3/5
Whenever Shawn Ashmore is in a movie things are bound to go wrong and people seem to die. This was no exception. This movie was enjoyable and full of some good looking people. It had suspense, intrigue and Amanda Seyfried... The things we like.

Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999)

RATING: (E 4/5)
I think this is one of the best dark comedies of the 90's. The all-star cast, the writing, everything about it is just so funny. Maybe I find it funnier because I grew up in that area of the world in a small town not unlike the one in the movie. I "get" the humor and inside jokes. I really enjoyed the mockumentary aspect and don't think it could have actually worke any other way. Even though I have seen this movie a hundred times over the years, it still makes me laugh in all the same spots it originally did. That is truly the mark of a good movie.

The Cars That Ate Paris (1974)

RATING: 2/5
This movie had such promise... the trailer was good, the concept of the movie was decent, but the execution was boring, boring, boring. Not until the last 20 minutes did the cars come down and destroy the town. There did not seem to be a plot to this little 70's flick, so it seemed to be a waste of 1.5hrs. Where was the blood, where was the eating?

It (1990)

RATING: 4/5
Who knew I would have to flip my DVD to watch a movie on DVD, I thought that was a laserdisc issue. LOL. Okay, so we spent last night watching it. I had never seen it but had been told it was creepy, so why not give it a try. While I did not find it creepy, I also did not find it corny. It was a pretty decent movie, long, but decent. There was a lot of down time, but more of a build up and understanding of the characters. Good cast, and Elisabeth, who has read the book, said it is pretty darn close to the book.

The Black Cauldron (1985)

RATING 3/5
Tuesdays in January, we are dedicating to animation films and we started off with The Black Cauldron. Elisabeth had seen before, but I had been wanting to see this for a while now even though we own it. Adventurous and entertaining, this was an enjoyable movie although it lacked a triumphant finale. There was a lot of build up for a let down at the end. The animation was not up to par for a Disney film, the characters seemed to look cut out and places on top of backgrounds and you could see what objects were going to move before they did as those items did not blend into picture. Again, everything in the foreground seemed have a weird outline to it. Story wise, it was good... animation was just too poor for us to give it a higher rating.

The American (2010)

RATINGS: (J) 2/5 (E) 4/5
First movie of the year that we disagreed on. Elisabeth thought the cinematography made the movie for her and reminded her a bit of Nosferatu with not a lot of dialog. For me, I found it slow and not being able to relate since I had no clue of who or what the characters were until the end, which then made sense. - Jenny

Ramona and Beezus (2010)

★★★ 1/2
The movie was enjoyable and was a good hearted family film. It had a good story line with some good humor, although we missed Sandra Oh as a smart ass, which she is good at.
