Bambi (1942)

Jenny - RATING: 3/5
I have not seen this movie since I was young and watching now I realized that truly there is no story to this movie, no plot, no real sense of story except that of the circle of life. I am glad that they made the characters true animals instead of having them more like people; it kept it real. We watched the commentaries with it, which always is fun with Disney because you learn so much of the creation of it as well as touching on other movies at the same time. The Blu-Ray on this is fabulous, the transfer is excellent. If you get a chance, listen to it with commentary.

Elisabeth - RATING: 3.5/5
Watched this with the storyboard and sweatroom commentary from the blu-ray. It really made the difference hearing the running ideas from Walt and the director and animators. The quality in the transfer was really clean and the new 7.1 surround was wow. They really made a great blu-ray edition with this and I can't wait to see the cool features on the next sets.

Almost Famous (2000)

Jenny - RATING: 5/5
This is one of my top 10 favorite movies, probably my top 5. I have reviewed this movie before but again to say that it is probably the movie the hit most home with me as I was "William Miller" in the late 80's and early 90's with the latin american pop music scene. I wanted to be a music writer and I made friends with the artists like he did. It was a part of my life that I hold dear and can totally relate. It is fabulous movie that never gets old.

Elisabeth - RATING: 4/5
I really like this movie. It shows a side of touring that most of us would have never seen. I like that it is sort of brutally honest about the goings on. I have only seen this movie once before and I liked it then. Fast forward to 5-6 years later, and it is still a great movie.

Network (1976) - AFI Top 100 #64

Jenny -RATING 4/5
Drama, humor and a bit of truth to it all, Network was an awesome two hours of entertainment about the world of television, reality tv and news. Faye Dunaway plays an awesomely strong woman in a man's world of television 70's. Acting was superb, story was great. I can see why this is one of the Top 100 AFI films. Excellent. I saw this when I was younger, way younger, but don't remember lots of it. Can appreciate it more now as an adult.

Elisabeth - RATING: 4/5
Great movie. It is always interesting to see how things were done back in the day of TV Networks. It really gives you an understanding of how it all meshes together, where ideas come from and what it takes to get the ever-elusive top rating. Everything about this movie was spot on and I honestly don't think I would change anything other than the "love" story between the two people...that just wasn't necessary, but it gave us insight into a modern vs old-school way of thinking about things. What was funny, was when they were playing the Life commercial at the end, Jenny and I could quote the entire thing as they played it...and well...the whole movie just made its point.

AFI Top 100 #34 - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)

Elisabeth RATING: 4/5

I have probably seen this movie a hundred times over the years. I know all the songs, I know all the words, and yet I can continue to watch it and like it. The blu-ray made everything so clear and the commentary is very enlightening with Walt's own words. A master of what animation could be, Disney was a genius in giving us a new form of feature film with this one, and I can see why it continues to be a classic. That...is a feat in and of itself.

Jenny - RATING: 3/5
For our first AFI Top 100, we watched Snow White, which might have been brilliant in its time but really its not Disney's best. There was a lot of movie that was a break through in animated film making and watching the blu-ray with Walt's commentary makes you realize how much truly went into making this film. For me, I thought the movie itself was very slow moving doesn't hold me or capture me but does have an awesome villain.

Donnie Darko (2001)

Jenny - RATING: 4/5

This is a movie for me that gets better with time. The first time I watched it, I was like WHAT? HUH? THIS IS STUPID? But as time goes on I understand and catch things that I never noticed before, like Ashley Tisdale. LOL. We watched this with my nephew and his wife who were Donnie Darko virgins and they really liked it but it had their brains swirling afterward. They mentioned it was almost like Inception with things not being what they appeared to be. Ok, I get that. Over all, this is an awesome movie that needs more watches cos I am sure there was more I missed.

Elisabeth: 4/5
I have always loved this movie from the first time I saw it. And each and every time I see it, I see something different, which is awesome. This is one of the very first movies which made me see things in a different way as well. I love the surrealistic aspect of it and even though I HATE movies about time travel, this one works for me because it wasn't really a movie about time travel...or was it? That is what I love about this movie. Depending on who you talk to...they got something completely different out of it.

RoboCop (1987)

RATING: 4/5
As a kid I liked RoboCop and now watching for the first time since it was released many moons ago, I find that I still like it. It has suspense, action, lots of gunfire and a decent story. Some of the CGI did not hold up so well... some of the robots seems cartoonish. The transfer to Blu-ray was great though some shots were grainy but what do you expect. Time to move on to the next in the series, which I don't remember seeing.

Ode to Billy Joe (1976)

RATING: 3/5

Neither one of us had seen this since we were kids, and we guessed that it had to be around the time it was released. I always knew who was in it, but never really remembered the movie. Still a good movie considering it was made in the 70's...not a lot of the movies from that decade held up that well. The story was well done, and I kind of miss songs that actually told a story. This movie deserves a watch at least once in a lifetime.

Alice in Wonderland (1951)

RATING: (E 4/5) (J 3/5)
This was our first time watching it on blu-ray, and the conversion was just so amazing. The clarity and colors just popped. Jenny thought this was boring in places, where I was completely fascinated the whole time. What I find interesting is that after watching Walt and El Grupo, you realize just how much Walt fell in love with the direction Mary Blair's art went. It is so apparent in all of the cartoons from the 50's where she had a hand in the art direction. This is and always has been a classic to me and one of my top 5 Disney animated features of all time.

Hellboy (2004)

RATING: 4.5/5
Hellboy is one of our favorite series in this house. Don't know if it is Selma Blair, Guillermo Del Toro or just the movies in general. It is one of the best comic book adaptation done. We watched this with my nephew, who was watching for the first time, and his wife, who had only seen this on telemundo. LOL. It also was the first movie watched in our new movie room with new speakers, etc... It was an awesome test movie. Wooo.

The Princess Bride (1987)

RATING: (J) 3/5 - (E) 4/5
This is one movie we disagree on. While Elisabeth really likes this movie and can holler out the lines as they are happening, I can't even remember I have seen the movie until it starts playing. Elisabeth laughs, where I say ugh. We do own this on blu-ray and we watched for the first time since getting the copy. This movie just doesn't seem to be my thing, but remains a favorite of Elisabeth's.

Lord of the Flies (1990)

RATING: 5/5
This has to be one of my top movies of all time. Wasn't on my plan to watch movie list today, but my nephew came over to watch movies with me and he wanted to see this one. It is always intense and I see something new each time I watch it. I don't really have many bad things to say about this movie, it is just incredible.

Gremlins (1984)

RATING: 4/5
As much as this movie as a cheese factor to it, it makes me happy to see these little guys and how they change to cause havoc on the little town. Yeah, it is a bit slow into getting them to their gremlin form, but once they do the fun begins. I love it and the blu-ray transfer is pretty decent.
