Bambi (1942)

Jenny - RATING: 3/5
I have not seen this movie since I was young and watching now I realized that truly there is no story to this movie, no plot, no real sense of story except that of the circle of life. I am glad that they made the characters true animals instead of having them more like people; it kept it real. We watched the commentaries with it, which always is fun with Disney because you learn so much of the creation of it as well as touching on other movies at the same time. The Blu-Ray on this is fabulous, the transfer is excellent. If you get a chance, listen to it with commentary.

Elisabeth - RATING: 3.5/5
Watched this with the storyboard and sweatroom commentary from the blu-ray. It really made the difference hearing the running ideas from Walt and the director and animators. The quality in the transfer was really clean and the new 7.1 surround was wow. They really made a great blu-ray edition with this and I can't wait to see the cool features on the next sets.

Almost Famous (2000)

Jenny - RATING: 5/5
This is one of my top 10 favorite movies, probably my top 5. I have reviewed this movie before but again to say that it is probably the movie the hit most home with me as I was "William Miller" in the late 80's and early 90's with the latin american pop music scene. I wanted to be a music writer and I made friends with the artists like he did. It was a part of my life that I hold dear and can totally relate. It is fabulous movie that never gets old.

Elisabeth - RATING: 4/5
I really like this movie. It shows a side of touring that most of us would have never seen. I like that it is sort of brutally honest about the goings on. I have only seen this movie once before and I liked it then. Fast forward to 5-6 years later, and it is still a great movie.

Monsters (2010)

Jenny - RATING: 2/5
Nothing impressed me or moved me in this movie and the whole kiss at the end seemed like they just need a forced closure for the film. It was long and drawn out for no true fear of these "monsters" and once in the US it almost seemed like the E.T.'s we not to be feared cos they didn't try to really hurt the two main characters. They never seemed to be in danger so I felt nothing for them.

Elisabeth - RATING: 2/5
I hadn't seen an alien movie move this slow since Close Encounters of the Third Kind. I don't even have much to say about this movie, other than it could have been so much better.

Never Let Me Go (2010)

Jenny - RATING: 4/5
How would I feel if I knew my life could end at any moment? They could take away a vital organ and I would be done... That is what this movie did; it made me think about loving someone or something especially with a glimmer of hope that you could stop it, and living your short life like that. Every moment is precious even if you are born to donate. This was an all around good movie that evokes thoughts on your own life.

Elisabeth - RATING: 5/5
Such a heart-wrenching movie on all levels. Everything about this movie was just perfect in my opinion. The cinemaphotography, the acting, the direction...everything. I hadn't felt quite so heartbroken for all of the characters in a movie in a very long time. Just the looks they gave spelled so much grief and knowing that it wouldn't last long. That is sad...I think even if you don't get the movie, you can't help feeling something by the end of it.

The Social Network (2010)

Jenny - RATING: 3/5
Hmmm... I am still trying to decide what I think of this movie. It wasn't all bad but to me it was not Best Picture worthy. Jesse Eisenberg did a good job as a asshole but for some reason I think that it might not been much of a stretch but who knows... it seems to come easy for him. I think Brenda Song did a better job at being a pyscho girlfriend... YAAY BRENDA! The movie lacked something but I don't exactly know what; just felt unmoved by it all.

Elisabeth - RATING: 3.5/5
I wanted to love this movie. I didn't hate it, but I am probably the only person in the world that doesn't really like Aaron Sorkin's style of writing...oh well. I thought it was well directed and acted and liked it well enough because of that. But...this is officially my least favorite David Fincher movie.

Eastern Promises (2007)

Jenny - RATING: 3/5
As much as I wanted to like this movie all the way through, I was seriously disappointed on how they ended this movie. I feel left with no closure what so ever. Too many questions are unanswered and I really wanted to see a big show down at the end. Story was excellent but just failed at the end... Almost a 4 star for me...

Elisabeth - RATING: 3/5
If it weren't for the ambiguous ending...I would have given this movie a better rating. I am all for not having closure, but to leave it hanging like it did made no sense at all. Viggo kicked some serious ass in this movie and I do think this movie was really good, just not great.

AFI Top 100 #34 - Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937)

Elisabeth RATING: 4/5

I have probably seen this movie a hundred times over the years. I know all the songs, I know all the words, and yet I can continue to watch it and like it. The blu-ray made everything so clear and the commentary is very enlightening with Walt's own words. A master of what animation could be, Disney was a genius in giving us a new form of feature film with this one, and I can see why it continues to be a classic. That...is a feat in and of itself.

Jenny - RATING: 3/5
For our first AFI Top 100, we watched Snow White, which might have been brilliant in its time but really its not Disney's best. There was a lot of movie that was a break through in animated film making and watching the blu-ray with Walt's commentary makes you realize how much truly went into making this film. For me, I thought the movie itself was very slow moving doesn't hold me or capture me but does have an awesome villain.

Abandoned (2010)

Jenny - RATING: 3.5/5
The last movie of Brittany Murphy was pretty darn good. I was glad that she actually left on a high note even though it was not highly publicized. The movie kept me guessing what was going on and was feeling a lot like she was... very confused. But it turned out good... Nice job and RIP Brittany Murphy.

Elisabeth RATING: 3/5
No one plays crazy like Brittany Murphy. So much talent wasted and she was the only highlight of this movie, but you could tell she just wasn't the same as she was anymore. Movie was okay...but nothing amazing.

Case 39 (2009)

Jenny - RATING: 4/5

Sometimes a movie comes along that has everything a good thriller needs... A creepy kid, supernatural evil, a frightened blonde and non-believing cop... and the rest falls into place. This movie had it all for me. At first you think the parents are on crack but then the movie would have been over, this is when it all turns bad, but good... and the whole time you are saying WTF and how are they gonna stop this devil child. Thought it was pretty darn good film making in my book.

Elisabeth RATING: 3/5
I thought this movie was just okay. Predictable, but had enough of a story to make it interesting. This kid was way creepier than the kid in Orphan, which was cool. I hope she does well in the future, because I would like to see more of her. She was the highlight of the movie for me.

Gattaca (1997)

Jenny - RATING: 4/5
Honestly, I thought that this would be a movie that would be just okay. I remember it coming out when I worked at Blockbuster Video, but since I was never and Uma Thurman fan I always skipped it. But Elisabeth said it was really good and she bought it on blu-ray, so I might as well give it a shot and I was really impressed with it. Impressive story, good characters, and interesting look into our future.

Elisabeth - RATING: 4/5
This has to be one my more favorite sci-fi/futuristic movies, and probably the one I find most realistic. I love the way it was filmed, the cinemaphotography is one I truly enjoy. Even after seeing this a few times, it still holds up well, and I will definitely look forward to another watch later to see how well it holds up.

Donnie Darko (2001)

Jenny - RATING: 4/5

This is a movie for me that gets better with time. The first time I watched it, I was like WHAT? HUH? THIS IS STUPID? But as time goes on I understand and catch things that I never noticed before, like Ashley Tisdale. LOL. We watched this with my nephew and his wife who were Donnie Darko virgins and they really liked it but it had their brains swirling afterward. They mentioned it was almost like Inception with things not being what they appeared to be. Ok, I get that. Over all, this is an awesome movie that needs more watches cos I am sure there was more I missed.

Elisabeth: 4/5
I have always loved this movie from the first time I saw it. And each and every time I see it, I see something different, which is awesome. This is one of the very first movies which made me see things in a different way as well. I love the surrealistic aspect of it and even though I HATE movies about time travel, this one works for me because it wasn't really a movie about time travel...or was it? That is what I love about this movie. Depending on who you talk to...they got something completely different out of it.

Iron Man 2 (2010)

Jenny - RATING: 3.5/5
Iron Man 2 had all the things I liked in a super hero movie... action, explosions, cute superhero, and good villain. Add a semi-hot co-super hero (Scarlett Johansson), and I got a movie that entertained me for about two hours. I found the ratio of downtime/uptime was just right, the special effects were cool, and the villain arm whips were just awesome. I'd watch this again.

Elisabeth - RATING: 3/5
It was an okay movie. Sometimes, all you need is something to entertain you, and this most certainly did. It would have been way more helpful to know more about the people from SHIELD though...not just add them in for the heck of it. It could have been better, but it could have been a heck of a lot worse.

RoboCop 3 (1993)

RATING: 2/5
Wrapping up my RoboCop blu-ray trilogy, the third film was not much better than the second. Very weak story line, lack of interesting characters and again nothing to tell us how we got from two to three but to make it worse they decided to put a jet pack on him... Enter SUPER Robocop. I was waiting for the cap to appear sometime during flight. This series had the potential to be awesome, but fell flat on film two and never picked up. Overall, my series rating will be a 3 just because the first was sooooo awesome.

RoboCop 2 (1990)

RATING: 2.5/5
Though the movie had lots of special effects, gunfights, and robot vs robot action, that was its core. A weak story made me wondering what was truly the mission RoboCop. There was no story about how Murphy cleaned up, how his girl partner is back to normal or anything else. There were many questions unanswered.

RoboCop (1987)

RATING: 4/5
As a kid I liked RoboCop and now watching for the first time since it was released many moons ago, I find that I still like it. It has suspense, action, lots of gunfire and a decent story. Some of the CGI did not hold up so well... some of the robots seems cartoonish. The transfer to Blu-ray was great though some shots were grainy but what do you expect. Time to move on to the next in the series, which I don't remember seeing.

Alice in Wonderland (1951)

RATING: (E 4/5) (J 3/5)
This was our first time watching it on blu-ray, and the conversion was just so amazing. The clarity and colors just popped. Jenny thought this was boring in places, where I was completely fascinated the whole time. What I find interesting is that after watching Walt and El Grupo, you realize just how much Walt fell in love with the direction Mary Blair's art went. It is so apparent in all of the cartoons from the 50's where she had a hand in the art direction. This is and always has been a classic to me and one of my top 5 Disney animated features of all time.

Cyrus (2010)

RATING: 2.5/5
Took til the end to see the point of this movie, we stuck it out. Thought this was going to be a lot more funny than the drama that it was, though it wasn't completely hideous.

Alien: Resurrection (1997)

RATING: 4/5

A great movie. I love the twist this one took and didn't expect it at all. I try not to know what the movie is about before I see it. I just want a general gist of what it is about, but I don't want to know much more than that. It keeps it much more interesting. Everyone was so great in this one.

Alien 3 (1992)

RATING: 4/5
The movie that made me fall in love with David Fincher. The way that man can frame a shot...wow. This was very good for his first movie, which most people don't know. While this is not my favorite of the series, I still like the movie as a whole within the series and I grow to appreciate it more and more each time I see it.

Aliens (1986)

RATING: 4/5

This was back when James Cameron was still good and working on multiple projects at once, which made him better. To this day, I still quote lines from this movie on a somewhat daily basis...does that mean it was good? To me, yes. This was my first time watching the special edition cut. The extra footage actually made sense. I really like that they release this stuff after the fact. It gives it more replay value. It is interesting listening to the commentary about the different methods they used to cut costs, which was pretty cool.
And remember...they mostly come out at night...mostly.
